Restoration projects to benefit from run

White Rock Lake Conservancy seeks to raise funds for the Dallas Park and Recreation Department to fund major renovation and restoration projects at the lake.

White Rock Lake Conservancy has partnered with the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department to bring Celebration! White Rock, the 6th annual 5k/10k race and festival to be held on April 4 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Winfrey Point on the east side of White Rock Lake. 

This will be an opportunity to run at White Rock Lake, a place that is a mecca for area runners and has been closed to new races. There will be a pre-run warm up put on by Athleta beginning at 5:45 p.m., the 10k race begins at 6:10 p.m., the 5k at 6:30 p.m., and the post-race festival will begin at 7 p.m. with live music, hair painting by Floyd’s and other activities for children. Food and drinks will be provided by local sponsors such as Lakewood Brewing Co., Oak Highlands Brewery, E-Bar Tex-Mex, Hypnotic Donuts, Hypnotic Emporium, Papa Murphys, TCBY, Blue Mesa, Dream Café, Humble Pies, Juice Bar Lakewood, Kona Ice, Mexico Lindo, Legal Draft Beer, LifeAID Beverage, Slim Chickens White Rock Alehouse & Brewery, Unleavened, El Vecino, The LOT and more. 

Pricing is $45 for the 5k and $55 for the 10k and will go up $10 on race day. There is a suggested donation of $20 for those attending the party but not participating in the race. 

This event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the White Rock Lake Conservancy. The organization seeks to raise funds for the Dallas Park and Recreation Department to fund major renovation and restoration projects. The net proceeds from this year’s event will be used for restoration projects at White Rock Lake Park.

White Rock Lake spans more than 1,015 acres and has more than nine miles of trails surrounding the lake. This urban Dallas oasis was originally constructed in 1911 as a water source for the City of Dallas but is now home to various wildlife and enjoyed by more than 1 million visitors per year, including runners, cyclists, rowers, bird watchers, fishers, picnickers and other outdoor enthusiasts. 

Founded in 2007, White Rock Lake Conservancy is a 501c3 sanctioned by the Dallas Park and Recreation Department. 

It was created to raise funds to go towards the implementation of the top 10 projects identified as vital to the lake’s continuing prosperity and improvement.
