Sinise was nominated for an Academy Award for his landmark role of Lt. Dan Taylor in “Forrest Gump” and won an EMMY Award for his portrayal of George Wallace in “1998.” For nearly four decades, while simultaneously working tirelessly to help and support our nation’s military and first responders, Sinise has starred in hit films and television series like “Apollo 13,” “Ransom,” “Truman” and “CSI: NY.”

Sinise has entertained more than a half million troops around the world playing bass guitar with his Lt. Dan Band, and in 2011 he founded the Gary Sinise Foundation with a mission to serve and honor America’s defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need. “While we can never do enough to show our gratitude to our nation’s defenders, we can always do a little more,” Sinise says. In 2008, President Bush awarded Sinise the Presidential Citizens Medal, the nation’s second-highest civilian honor.

Col. Miguel Howe, USA (Ret.), the April and Jay Graham Fellow of the Military Service Initiative at the Bush Institute, will lead a conversation with Sinise and discuss his new memoir, The New York Times Best Seller, “Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service.”

The Engage public programming series brings newsmakers, thought leaders, and innovators to the Bush Center. Thought-provoking lectures and discussions allow visitors to connect with the Bush Center in a new way and dive deeper into many of the issues and policy areas that matter most.

The George W. Bush Presidential Center is located at 2943 SMU Boulevard in Dallas. Visit bushcenter.org/engage or email Katie Ballard at [email protected] more information about the event.
