Strong leadership skills lead to awards

With the school year nearly complete, Dallas ISD seniors are continuing to unlock opportunities for their future.

One hundred and six students were selected for the Juanita Craft Scholarship, which awards $6,000 to those who attend schools in the fair park area. These schools include Franklin D. Roosevelt High School of Innovation, Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School, James Madison High School, Lincoln High School and Humanities/Communications Magnet, North Dallas High School and Woodrow Wilson High School.

“Receiving this scholarship significantly contributes to new opportunities and the accomplishment of my educational goals,” said Michele T., a scholarship recipient and senior at Irma Lerma. “The financial support given by this scholarship not only eases the weight of tuition and college costs but also allows me to continue my education and stay involved throughout the university.”

Michele, who plans to study nursing at the University of Texas at Arlington, said the scholarship gives her access to resources like training programs and networking opportunities to advance in her career.

“This scholarship represents more than just financial support. It shows a commitment to a journey filled with educational excellence and student development. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity, as it opens many doors for my family and myself,” she said.

Eva A., another Irma Lerma senior, was selected for the Peggy Sloan Memorial Scholarship. This opportunity, which awards another $6,000 on top of the Juanita Craft Scholarship, is given to Irma Lerma students who showcase strong leadership skills. 

The Juanita Craft Scholarship is renewable each semester, and students are required to enroll in a minimum of 12 hours a semester and maintain a 3.0 GPA.
