This year’s Operation Beautification Litter Clean Up Event faced more than a little turbulence. Heavy March rains forced a cancellation, and the rescheduled April 18 date meant many groups couldn’t return. But adversity has a way of revealing who Ferguson Road Initiative members are — and the volunteers showed exactly what this community is made of. Sixty eight incredible individuals stepped out into relentless rain, gusty winds, and brisk 52° temperatures to clean neighborhood streets, parks and schools. Their determination didn’t just beautify the neighborhood; it energized it. Their commitment turned a stormy day into a celebration of resilience, teamwork and community pride. — Vicki Martin
